A DRAMATISED STORY OF LIFE AT SCHOOL

Exploration is part of life: Exploration of the experiences available in life and exploration of ourselves. I suppose some explore more than others and among those who do explore, some keep to the bright highways and some dedicate themselves to the backroads. I say this because, I think, I was partly lending myself for exploration during the school days I write about in this piece. I was altering my path and seeing where it would lead. Partly I had the conviction this was right for me. Partly I was a dilettante who would rejoin the regular path shortly.

The character who I call Hobbes went on after leaving school to write a couple of very well received and widely read books, one a biography the other a history, while he was still very young. It may interest the reader to know I once sent him 'School Diary.' He wrote back by letter how funny it was that certain people, who had loomed as large as ogres at school, were now no more than ordinary car salesman or chartered surveyors, a very tactful comment.
